Go Short Before Go Long

Go Short Before Go Long

First of the Series – Starting with triathlon

We don’t know if it is correct to say that triathlon is “the” fastest growing sport in the world; but it is definitely among the first.

If you search for people who have completed a triathlon and ask why they decided to participate in the sport – what got them there – you can get an answer included in the list below:

I like challenges.

I have a dream to complete a triathlon.

I want to make one for my birthday.

It looks like fun.

A friend invited me.

Among other great reasons …

Many beginners and even more experienced athletes deal with running injuries and often need to do strength training or even cross training as another discipline totally out of their normal routine to recover. Often and when they start cycling and swimming, they end up realizing that they like the variety and don’t want to stop. A new challenge, a change in your regular activities.

They decide to make changes in life and routine and and where the triathlon starts. Many seek inspiration such as … “celebrating the next birthday by completing a triathlon”.

But many already have a certain facility in one or even in the three separate modalities and the idea of combining them in a single competition always seems to be challenging and they decide to embark on this adventure, but do not know where to start, what to acquire first as equipment ? How far to train and compete?

Many have heard this before, but never pay much attention or even take it seriously because the motivation and the challenge often speak louder, “Start slowly, not from a step bigger than the leg”. The Ironman World Championship event is arguably the most recognizable triathlon event in the world. NBC’s award-winning broadcast of this event brought the triathlon’s struggle and triumph to living rooms around the world. However, a 226.27 km event divided between 3862 meters of swimming, 180 km of cycling and 42 km of running – it is more than almost all beginner triathletes who should try to perform at the beginning of the practice of this sport, but this is one of the great calls for beginners, not participating in the World Championship, but completing an IRONMAN distance the so famous 140.6 or even starting with a Half Ironman distance also known as 70.3 which is half an IRONMAN distance event.

To say that you will not be able to finish a long or half long distance before completing shorter races is not true, yes, you will be able to, but for a number of points, it is true to say that it is safe to start with the short distances gradually increasing distances as your physical conditioning allows. At the Bodyfeed Sports Advisory we suggest to all athletes looking for our services that they participate in at least 2 to 3 of each distance before jumping to the next level, so that you can better enjoy your training and your body.

If you are a runner and do not practice swimming, add cycling and start practicing duathlon until you have more chances or conditions to start swimming. Now if you are already familiar with the three disciplines you can choose the Sprint distance which has 750 meters of swimming, 20 km of cycling and 5 km of running, this distance also exists in the duathlon and swimming is replaced by a shorter run. for example 2-20-5 or 3-20-3 or even 5-20-5. After a few events, at least, you will feel more confident and realize that you can handle more or even your trainer will alert you that it is time to move to the next level where you can try an Olympic or International distance event with an average of 1400 meters of swimming, 40 km of cycling and 10 km of running. This distance also offers duathlon style. After some Olympic distance tests, you can feel more confident to advance to the great distances, 70.3 and 140.6. Some organizers also offer duathlon for the longest distances.

At Bodyfeed Sports Advisory, we believe that there is a correct way to train for a resistance event. It starts with having a clear goal, finding instructions from experts, conducting structured training and receiving immediate feedback throughout the process, and our programs can help you achieve your goals.

That said, set your goals … Train smart! Come to Bodyfeed Sports Advisory
